Ash King wins Stardust ‘Sensation’ Award

West London-born music sensation Ash King won the first of what is certain to be long list of awards and honours Friday night; the British Asian singer and songwriter was awarded the ‘Best New Male Singing Sensation’ Award at the prestigious and glamorous Stardust Awards ceremony in Mumbai.
The win was particularly impressive given the roster of new singing talent competing in the category, including Ali Zafar, Kamal Khan and Shahid Mallya.
The boy from Southall was seen rubbing shoulders with the likes of Rekha, Aksay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Vidya Balan, Kajol and the delectable Bipasha Basu.
Accepting his first award, King said “Bollywood has shown me so much love. Here’s to more songs and more magic!” The singer also made special mention of maestro A R Rahman who first discovered the singer and took him to his base in Chennai for a recording session.
The highlight of the night however was when Ash surprised the audience with an acapella rendition of his 2011 hit ‘I Love You’ before Kareena Kapoor dazzled the night with a medley of dance numbers of her latest movie ‘Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu’ which features Ash King’s current hit ‘Aunty Ji’.
The London boy is rocking Bollywood and is dubbed the one to watch this year. Ash continues his stay in India this month to record more material, having already sung on no less than 6 major Bollywood soundtracks, including work with Oscar-winning AR Rahman and much loved Bollywood maestro Pritam. His hits have included 'Dil Gira Dafatan' ('Dehli 6'), 'Te Amo' ('Dum Maaro Dum') and 'I Love You' ('Bodyguard').
